The drone is perched upon the sill.
He’s pressed between the window and the screen and waits there still.
He’d gone to her just wanting understanding.
But once he’d mated with the queen, now his life was ending.
So, here he lies and takes in kitchen scenes. Oooh….
While the curly-haired boy tends the plants and cleans.
His thorax’s destiny’s to be dried out and emptied.

His company’s the detritus
Of former bees who retired all alone with no witnesses.
Brothers and sisters, by the hundreds and they’re not wonderin’ where he’s been.
